Silver Emperor Butterfly

The Silver Emperor (Doxocopa laure) is a medium sized butterfly, dark brown with bold white stripes and yellow patches at the tips of upperside.

It ranges from northern Mexico south into Brazil. It sometimes is seen in the lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas.

Wing spread: 2.75" - 3.25"

Host Plants: Rotting frut, carrion, sap, dung
