Question Mark butterfly - wings open

The Nymphalid family consists of a number of medium to large size butterflies. They have a small front pair of legs that are covered with long, hairlike scales.

Question Mark butterfly - wings open.
This butterfly ranges throughout eastern North America, often found in moist woodlands, swamps and residential landscapes. Winter adults can hibernate in warmer staetes, and emerge on warm, sunny days. They resemble dry, dead leaves with their wings closed.
